We walked…and walked…..and walked…..

We walked…and walked…..and walked…..

We began the day early…6:15am breakfast and off to help with the Yearly fundraiser that Copprome does here in El Progreso..Last year they raised $5000 and so we were excited to work and help do whatever needed to be done!  We got there at 7:30 ready to work…they told us to just file in behind the kids (who were carrying the Copprome banner) and walk with them…The younger kids were carrying a banner and walking behind a big ambulance with sirens and speakers with music and an announcer talking about Copprome!  The High Schoolers from different schools in the area participated by getting sponsors to donate money for them to walk..all proceeds go to Copprome…they also sell lunch at the end of the walk and they make money off of that too!  We were told we would help take care of the kids while the walk was going on and that we would end up at a sanctuary where the Copprome kids would perform dances and sing!                                                                            So we were ready to work…the younger kids were walking just 4 blocks through town with the banner and then getting on a bus to take them to the sanctuary…so we walked (lots of us in our flip flops…I mean 4 blocks..we can handle that in flip flops)….and we walked….their distance of a block must have been a whole lot longer than ours…and we ended up walking through town and outside of it toward some beautiful mountains!  The bus came and picked up the small kids and some of our team…but some of us decided to continue walking…we walked and walked….thinking it was just a 5K….They said about 3 miles right?? Well, as does lots of things here, call it confusion in translation…or maybe just gringos  not catching on real quickly?…anyway..we walked and walked…I thought a lot about Jesus and how He walked so far everyday in His sandals…Here we were walking with Copprome kids most of the time with their arms wrapped around us or holding our hands……. for a real cause…I think I could have walked 25 miles for them…we turned off the main road onto a dirt road and up into the mountains…it was beautiful!!!…the sanctuary was sitting in the middle about half way up…and the little kids were there waiting on us!  They were so excited and nervous to perforn the dances they had practiced so hard for!! It was precious!! Not to mention Gabriel and his angelic voice singing to the crowd of about 200 people…the teenage girls were going crazy over him..he is gorgeous and has a sweet face , a beautiful smile and his voice is magical!! The girls were screaming and chanting…he is definitely a rock star here!! haha It was a sweet day…we went back to the orphanage for lunch and then loaded the buses and took the kids swimming!!  They loved it…and we even rented the indoor soccer arena for an hour and they went in there and had a blast…even Ty played…It was awesome to see him enjoying the kids so much!! Nando said they think he is Santa Claus…haha!!   We then came back to the hotel for dinner…It was a sweet day…some tears were shed because we were so proud of these sweet kids who had an audience to perform for….It makes me remember my kids when they were younger…they had an audience anytime they wanted it..we were always proud..always wanted to see them do what they loved to do…I think about the precious kids who have  no one to really tell them how proud they are of their talents and their hard work…We were able to do that today…yes..team #3 is really bonding with these kids…Tuesday night will be a  tough night for us all!! I have seen lots of motherly and fatherly love being poured out this week!!!
