26 Jun Team 2….Day 2
Wew! Today was a hot one!!! We are working on 3 houses at a time since we have so many STRONG young men…It is amazing how much was accompiished in 1 day…walls were going up on 2 houses (the two we dug footings for last trip) and we have started the footings on another! Lots of tying rebar, cutting wire, mixing concrete and laying block… Everyone was wet with sweat….but still smiling as we loaded up the vans to head to the hotel for a shower and an hour and a half rest! It is amazing how refreshed you feel after a cool shower and a short time just hanging out in an air conditioned hotel room….. Then we were off to Copprome to deliver lots of gifts from sponsors and play with the kids. We have amazing sponsor famiies at Hearts2Honduras….they send sweet gifts to their kids several times a year….but it is even sweeter when the sponsor meets their child for the first time! One of the families who came on this trip has sponsored their child since the very beginning of our sponsorship program in Jan of 2011…She was able to come and meet her this trip and they have been joined at the hip when we are at Copprome…and other great views are when a person comes for the first time and just instantly bonds with a child…..finds out they do not have a sponsor and decides to do it! There is an instant connection with some kids that is not even explainable….maybe it is God’s way of getting His orphans taken care of…I’m not sure….but whatever it is…it is so sweet to watch…we still have 15 kids without monthly sponsors and it is dwendling fast…thank goodness! 100% of the monthly sponsorship goes to buy food and necessities for the kids at Copprome! Everytime I come I bring all of the sponsorship money…and I personally buy food for Copprome…sometimes the cupboards are bare and we have lots to buy…sometimes they need socks and shoes… whatever the need is…..the monthly sponsoships make it happen! It is going to be really sweet when all the monthly sponsorships are filled! I have a sweet story from yesterday…Joshua is a sweet and fiesty boy from Olivos…he lives with his grandparents and has no idea where his parents are. Lola and Leo, our interpreters, have fallen in love with him….they invited him to come home and spend the night with them on Sunday…so he left with all of us and we took him to Copprome, swimming, lunch at the mall..etc….He was so excited to be with all of us and was full of smiles and energy as he enjoyed lots of firsts: it was his first time at a mall…his first time to order a meal of his own… his first time to come into a hotel room and watch tv…and his first time to eat pizza! We take so much for granted….and it is so precious to watch a little boy enjoy things for the first time that we accept as our norm…lifechanging….memory making…Joshua has some great memories of hanging out with the very people who helped build the house he will live in….It doesn’t get any better than that!!!!
