28 Sep Primera Vacaciones! 3 days in Roatan!
We left Progreso at 6 am Sunday morning in Sheltons tuck so. . . Off we go. . Planning to experience Roatan for the first time. . But even more importantly. . To take Gaby and Gabriel on their first vacation! This was originally planned for a late Birthday for Shelton. . But he ended up coming home in August. . So we just decided it would be a vacation for us all! But. . 12 miles outside of Progreso. . Sheltons truck started clicking and died. . The plan was to make the 9:30 ferry. . The only other one was at 4:30. . Ok we should have time to get to that one. . The group wasn’t leaving for the airport until 10. . So we called Ty and he came and jumped us off. . We drove the truck to the gas station. . Nando came and picked me up. . Took me to the airport and we rented a car. . Lots of changes. . So now. . Nando is going to drive us 2.5 hours to the ferry. . Turn the car back in. . Then check it out on Wednesday and come back and get us. . Sounds confusing? Well it saved us money. . Made Nando some money. . And we could still make the ferry! And we did! Gaby and Gabriel were so excited. . We boarded the ferry all smiles… Half way through the trip (45 minutes) Gaby and Nan were no longer smiles. . Dang. . I didn’t even think about buying dramamine. . Nan puked. . Gaby put her head on my shoulder. . And we suvived. . By now I am thinking about National Lampoon’s Vacation. . But I promise. . Everything was rosey after all this. . We arrived. . Grabbed 2 taxi’s in the dark and headed to our resort. . I had booked a 2 bedroom bungalo on the beach. . We arrived at night. . It was very rustic and dark. . We had no idea if it was good or not until the next morning. .Nan and I wete tripping in the dark and giggling so hard we thought we would wet our pants. . Finally. . We are in our room on the beach in Roatan. . WOOHOO! Nan was ready for bed. . But we were all hungry. . So we walked down the beach to the Thirsty Turtle and had a light dinner with fantastic live music. . We were tired and giggly and happy as we headed back toward our resort. . And then we heard dance music and saw families dancing and having a great time. . So we jumped in and joined them. . All 4 of us dancing and laughing together. . It was a great end to a crazy day! When we got back to our room. . Nan was snoring. . Sleeping very well. . Off to sleep we go looking forward to what tomorrow would bring. . I was pleasantly suprised at the prices there for food and entertainment. . Much cheaper than most island vacations. . And the people who work on the island were so humble and sweet. . Still Honduras with their kind sense of hospitality. . So the next 2 days were filled with massages. . Hair braids with beads. . Parasailing and snorkeling. . We had great food and great adventures. . Roatan was great. . We will be back. . But the best part for me, nan and Shelton was enjoying all of this with Gaby and Gabriel. . Watching their precious faces as they experienced lots of firsts. . So happy God gave me 2 more kids to experience life with. . And now they know their Nan!
