It was no Barnum and Bailey to us…but to the kids…IT SO WAS!!!!

I am back at home in Franklin, TN tonight…working on about 3 hours sleep…can’t believe I am still awake but I wanted to update you all on our fantastic last day in Honduras yesterday!!! Gabriel spent the night at the hotel with us and Gaby was hoping to join us early Sunday morning…but she could not get permission…so she called me crying…I just kept telling her…we only have to make it through one more year and we will be a full time family..(keep praying for that all of you!!! PLEASE) So Gabriel, Blake, Shelton and I headed to the mall to get Gabriel clothes and necessities….He is so shy about what he needs…If I had my kids at the mall and said what do you need…there would perhaps be lots of I wants…but for these kids….they want very little…most of their basic needs are met and that is all they have come to know….and if those aren’t met…oh well… tomorrow will be another day….

After shopping and running by the grocery store to get lots of chicken for the freezer at Copprome we picked up sweet Lola (our interpreter) who had made cupcakes and bought goodies for all of the kids!! So we headed to Copprome to have a fiesta and birthday party for the October birthdays…. and go to the circus…when we drove up they were chanting circus, circus, circus!!! It was adorable….they all went to get ready while we iced the cupcakes! Of course, in Honduras….they put the canned icing in a plastic bag with a hole in it and squirt it on there so it looks cute and pretty…so here I come…the practical one…if I am icing 70 cupcakes…I just take a spoon and spread it on top…doesn’t look great…but it is fast and tastes the same…right??? Especially after you put sprinkles all over it!!! They just laugh at me..I move in fast motion compared to their slow easy pace..haha…
So after we finish with the cupcakes…I go to see how the kids are all doing…I go into their rooms and the boys are shining their shoes…no…I am not kidding…they have out shoe polish and a brush…just like you see at the airport or at the arcade…but these kids are 5-9 yrs old and they are making sure they look good for the circus!!
And the girls are dressing up…putting gel in their hair and making sure they look adorable….what a sweet sight to see as I walked around taking pictures just hoping to capture their excitement for all of you to see…(see my facebook for all of the photos!) Pretty soon…they are ready to go….We ALL pile on one small bus and head to the circus…
It is NOT Barnum and Bailey….and it is NOT air conditioned nor are there fans!!! It is in a huge tent in the parking lot at the mall….we got FREE tickets to the 4:00 show(thanks to Lola who worked her magic with the manager!)….the kids were so excited!! They seated us right up front and the expressions on each of the kids faces were priceless!!! They watched in amazement at the tigers, trapeze artists, and clowns….and THEN…the smurfs appeared…the kids went crazy!!! We got a picture of all of the kids with the smurfs and they were all so excited!!! No this was not a circus that any of us would have been excited about…the tigers looked drugged…the trapeze artists were low to the ground and the clowns had more sweat on their faces than they did make up….BUT…..
blessings are all about how we perceive them….to these children who had never seen a circus…it was amazing…they absolutely loved it!!!! God always amazes me at the plans He has every time I return to Honduras…the circus…I could have never planned…having Gabriel for the weekend and Gaby for LOTS OF HOURS…I could have never orchestrated…having the 3 youngest kids Joseph, Luisito and Dyana…I could have never planned to keep them for the day on Friday…meeting Jamaiican Doris and her 2 sweet boys and Maria and her 3 kids for dinner….going to Lola’s for a fabulous lunch and Henry’s for a fabulous dinner….seeing the community center almost built and the plans for the 27 houses at Mount Olivos……I could have never planned or even prayed for…but God knew even before we got on the plane that He was going to plan this trip in a way that was new…exciting and unimaginable!
Every time I go….I experience more joy and more peace than I could ever imagine…. Thank you to all of you who donated money to buy the orphanage all of the food and clothing that we bought…we took almost $2000.00 and spend every penny on the things that they needed!!! Blake asked me “how long will these supplies we bought last?”…I said about a month….I’m not sure what she was thinking after I answered but I know that God tells us He will supply all of our needs….so I am ready and willing to return whenever He calls me to do so….Every drop of sweat that pours from my body as I sit in Nando’s cab and play outside with the kids and walk around all of the different shops to get supplies is another step closer to fulfilling a need for the orphans and the needy….with your help….their life is better….they get it…they know we come in the name of Jesus as we sang Yo Tango Gozo on the way and the way back from the circus!! Precious moments…precious kids…precious people….precious love that is humble and without pretense…If you haven’t been…sign up for next summer…you will be blessed in ways you cannot put into words…it is simply JOY OVERFLOWING….
