2013 Honduras Mission Team #3 Day 2

2013 Honduras Mission Team #3 Day 2

Woke up to a great breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon and fresh fruit! AND OF COURSE HONDURAN COFFEE… someone in the group tonight said I think coffee is always better when you are closest to where it is grown….amen to that!
We were off to Olivos for our first day’s work! We were basically starting 2 new homes..house #21 and #22…#21 footings were dug but 22 needed digging….so we dug…and dug…and in no time…it was done..then we moved on to pouring the concrete in the footings for house #21…at the same time…lots of rebar was being tied for both houses and everyone was doing a great job staying hydrated and learning their new tasks!!
The first work day is a day of learning a lot…learning how to mix concrete, tie rebar, etc…but also learning names and how to communicate with each other….that is the amazing part about this trip…watching people learn to communicate with each other….how to love  when you don’t even speak the same language…
The scripture I shared this morning was from Matthew 18:1-4 about being like little children….the kids never have a hard time communicating..they just play together as if they understand each other completely…that is what we need to do better…just enjoy…the joy…that comes from humbly loving each other…simple and pure…a smile…a hug…a sweet nod of the head…all gestures that say you are important…you are loved…you are chosen…
It feels good to give and receive these gestures…sometimes words are not even needed…

We then came back to the hotel to shower and rest for an hour or so and then off to Copprome Orphanage to continue loving through our actions…but not necessarily our words!!  2 hours of playing futball and drawing with sidewalk chalk and then we were off to Power Chicken…one of our favorite restaurants in El Progreso…everyone was happy with lots of shrimp, tilapia, steak, chicken, etc.. so much good food….
Then we came back to the hotel to talk more about the Holy spirit dwelling within us…who is He? What is He?   How do we know? We are studying a little from Francis Chan’s book “Forgotten God”… If you have never read it…I totally recommend it!  He does a great job helping you explore the Holy Spirit and the freedom and joy that comes from experiencing Him…
This is a sweet team and they all work together so well…all ages…a nice mix of personalities…..I look forward to waking up and having breakfast with them all in the morning…not to mention the coffee!!!!
