03 May I think I need to shorten my list!
Today started with my mind swirling with organizational thoughts for this summer!! There is so much we can do here to make such a huge difference!! We went to Mt Oliveras (the poor community) and discussed building a well..chicken house…and future houses for the families there. The people are so excited that we want to help them build their village! We went to town and priced supplies to build the well!
Katarina from Germany spent the day with us…she is a precious 24 yr old who has been here helping out for almost a year. She is living at the convent and just serving where ever she is needed. She speaks German, Spanish and English. I love seeing people who are willing to put their life on hold and serve others…or wait…maybe they are really living their life to the fullest….and ours is actually on hold???
Shelton went with the Copprome kids to swim at the river today!! He was able to play in the river (their swimming pool) for hours…jumping off rocks…screaming and laughing. He said it was awesome just watching and laughing with them…I am sure they thought he was “loco”….which is a word that is commonly used in the same sentence as Shelton!
We found out on Sunday that 2 of the Copprome kids’ mom is basically on her deathbed. The kids have been at the orphanage for 5 years and their mom has been sick and too poor to care for them…but they left Sunday night and went to be with the family. We found out today there was no food at the house…so instead of going to the river, Katarina and I went and bought food for them all and took it!! There were about 15 family members…7 kids….in the house just being together as a family. I was able to hold her hand and tell her that God was waiting for her…the people here are very secure in their faith and truly understand that heaven is better than earth…though death is sad…they understand that earth is temporary..maybe that is why they are so humble and do not care so much for material possessions…I learn so much from these people who have so little…their priorities are in better shape than mine….maybe I just have too much…It is easier to prioritize when the list is short…
Tomorrow my sweet friends Israel and Hollie Holliday and their 4 kids are coming…. we will go and buy food for the orphanage with the donations Hearts 2 Honduras has received!!…they are also great examples of people willing to serve…They have been here 3 years.. .live 1 hour away from El Progreso….have helped build a school, children’s home and church…and have also adopted a precious Honduran little boy…Jude! They are an inspiration to be around!!
I am so thankful and blessed to be here!
