24 Mar First day…success!
We started the day with ham and cheese omelets, excellent coffe…. and lots of enthusiastic team members! After a quick stop for ice… we went to Olivos to begin 2 more houses. We dug footings for house number 17 and 18…and poured the floor on number 16!! Everyone worked so hard and were excited to see everything that was accomplished! The temp was around 102 degrees and I don’t even know what the heat index was….but probably close to 120. The kids had a blast running around and playing together.
The Olivos families are always so excited when we are in town…they have become like part of our family and it thrills Ty and I to introduce them to all of the team members.
After lots of hard work, we headed back to the hotel for showers (which actually consisted of jumping in the swimming pool for some) and an hour to sit in the rooms and rest. Then off to Copprome Orphanage for the team to meet the 41 kids that live there! We played soccer and did VBS for the kids. They decorated bags and learned about the treasures that Jesus has for us….then they were able to go out and find their own treasures hidden inside plastic candy filled Easter eggs…We also taught them a new song…If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands…in Spanish…..they loved it!!!! This team is compromised of lots of sweet famiies who have brought their kids on a mission trip for the first time. The kids range in age from 6 to 18 and they all handled the day perfectly! It also has families who have adopted orphans from all over the world…so watching them love on the kids at Copprome was pretty sweet!
We then headed back to the hotel for a dinner of Chicken Cordon Blue with mashed potatoes and rice! Day 1….oh yes…it was a sweet success!
Tomorrow…church at Olivos at 9am….Tino will preach and Gabriel will sing..and we will do VBS and the Easter egg hunt with them!!! Noche Noche!!!
