30 Jun Day 2 Painting the town peach with a rat in the tree!
Our second day in Honduras proved to be a true adventure…. We started the day with a breakfast of ham and cheese omelets, toast, fresh pineapple and of course… Honduran grown coffee! Now….this coffee is better than Starbucks! and coming from me…that is amazing…from the mouth of Keith Solomon “it is like liquid chocolate”!! Yes…the cafe’ is smooth and soothing.. Then off to the orphanage for our first offficial work day!! We broke into 2 work teams. One team began painting the outside of Copprome a beautiful peach color….the other team began working on the guards building which is at the front of the property inside the gates…it needs a new roof and we have the perfect group of young men here to accomplish that…don’t worry…they will work on the chicken house also! So the first fun adventure….a big rat was living in the guards house…Reid and Shelton were determined to take him down! So they began chasing him with a huge machette and we think they stabbed him once….he scurried out and they were chasing him screaming like girls…it was hysterical…they finally got him and Sister Teresita said “please don’t kill him..just put him in the tree”…so…they did…Seriously? The rat sat perched on a limb watching them repair “his house” from the mouth of Reid Solomon!! It will be interesting to see if he is still there this morning.. ……………………………………………… …….Both teams did a great job with their tasks and we came back to the hotel to shower and prepare for VBS….Tonda and Lisa Hasty did a fabulous job teaching the little ones at Copprome the story of David and Goliath…with the help of a skit …..actors included Kaleb Stone as David…Reid Solomon as Goliath (of course) and Jared, Luke, Kenan, Riley, Brad, Matt and Brian played the towns people…the kids loved it! The older kids were led by Matt Stone and Shelton and they discussed how God made them and said it is good….so they are good…even when they make bad choices…God loves them and is proud of what He created…we told them that they were showing God’s love by the way they accept and love us everytime we come to Honduras! It was another sweet day….and watching this awesome mission team love on these people here is an experience that takes my breath away and brings tears to my eyes….We are all God’s children….with the same hope and same future…..sharing that vision is the best part of any day!! Blessings to all of you wherever you are serving!!
