06 Aug A Day of Rest. . well. . kind of. . day 5 August Mission team
We were excited to wake up to a beautiful sunny day….not a cloud in the sky…looks like the big storm has slowed down…so we may not get rain until Tuesday…it was perfect weather for our day of church and swimming! So…we started our day with church at Olivos! It was a slow start…but once we began….it was amazing… The kids began by singing the songs we sang in VBS to their parents! They had so much fun showing off their hand motions and voices….they sang Yo Tengo Gozo and Christo Me Ama….then we sang Amazing Grace and Mighty To Save with Tracey on the guitar and Scott leading us…it was such a sweet sound in the community center! Then the people of Olivos sang a couple of songs for us… We all were worshipping in our own languages…no barriers…just sweet sweet sounds…. Then Ty spoke with Leo interpreting about being salt and light and that there will be trials and problems because Jesus told us that following Him will not always be easy….but always worth it…. Several people got up at the end and thanked all of us…sweet Tino(the leader of the Olivos community..one of the most humble men I know!) cried through the entire service…he was so emotional he couldn’t even speak…Sister Teresita spoke at the end and reminded everyone we were there because of the amazing God we serve…..It was a sweet morning…. Then we were off to the mall for lunch….then to Copprome to take all 42 kids swimming! That is so much fun!!! The kids LOVE it!!. Then back to Copprome for dinner…we ordered Kentucky Fried Chicken and sweet Doris made rice, beans and fresh chimol (salsa and avocada)! Then time for my favorite thing…..Feliz Cumpleanos August!!! We had icecream and cookies to celebrate 5 August birthdays…the birthday boys and girls have to come forward…get their gifts and hold their bowl of ice cream and cookies with a lit candle in them while we sing our American Happy Birthday song….It is really cute…most of the kids have no idea when their birthdays really are…they have never celebrated them prior to 18 months ago when I started this tradition…so they are looking at me asking if it is their birthday month…haha…I either say yes…or no and tell them their month so they can remember it……when we first started this tradition some would be mad that they did not get a gift…but now they have started to understand …they are so precious…today was special getting to spend so much time with all of them…sometimes I just wish Copprome was right down the street from me so I could visit everyday…but I am very thankful to be able to come 8 or 9 times a year…God is good and He brings me here often!!….yes….I am blessed….
