21 Sep Medical Missions…day 1
Well…part of our team arrived yesterday and part today…we are all here now and we hit the ground running as the Doctors arrived around 1 and headed straight to Copprome to set up the medical clinic! The kids that needed to be seen were taken care of and even received flip flops afterwards!!…that is better than a trip to the treasure chest!! The adult workers and their friends/families were also allowed to come and be checked out. Lots of high blood pressure and common colds….all in all it was a great day!! We have 3 nurses and 2 doctors here and several interpreters and assistants!! Ty told an interesting story about his arrival yesterday….he brought most of the medical supplies that the Doctors had purchased and requested….as most of you may or may not know…getting medical supplies over the border is sometimes tricky…they love to confiscate the items for ‘their own purposes’ alot of times and we have all heard some crazy stories….so as the bags were going through the scanner…one of Ty’s bags was tagged and pulled aside for a look inside…Ty was a little nervous and thought ‘oh boy…here we go’…the agent said do you have candy in here…Ty reached inside..just where he knew he had packed the children’s vitamins and said vitamins for some poor kids who need them….he then asked about the saline solution and Ty replied this is for cleaning out their eyes when needed….and then asked are you with a large group…(Ty said he was lifting up prayers during this entire interview)…Ty replied just a few of us arriving today and a few more tomorrow….the agent said ‘do you help the poor here?’ Ty said yes…we try to….and he nodded and allowed him through….Thank you Lord for allowing these sweet Doctors and nurses to share their gifts with the families here…. This trip is really special to me because I brought our mom ‘nan’ for the first time. She is getting to meet all the sweet people Ty and I have been talking about for the past 2 years!!! The kids at Copprome were so excited to meet her and Shelton said…nan, you were a jungle gym today!….and sweet Gaby…so excited to meet her grandmother…tomorrow…Gabriel will meet her…I know she will fall in love with both of her new grandkids!!! Tomorrow the medical team will go to Olivos to set up and I will go and buy groceries to stock Copprome’s shelves!! It has been 6 weeks since I have been here and they need lots of food!!! My task…to fill the shelves so there will be no worries about what the kids will eat over the next month!!! Thank you all so much for your donations to feed the Copprome kids…We rely on every penny to make sure Copprome can provide healthy food and necessities for all 42 kids!!! My 3:30am wake up time is hitting me hard….more tomorrow…Blessings to all of you!!
